Who is Sandeep Lamichhane?
Sandeep Lamichhane is a Nepalis professional cricketer who is widely regarded
as one of the most talented young spinners in world cricket. He was born on August 2, 2000, in Syangja,
Nepal. He is a right-arm leg-spinner and has played for the Nepalese national
cricket team and several other domestic and international teams. He is the First Nepali player to play the Indian biggest cricket league (IPL), not only that, he has played for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL) and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Sandeep has won numerous accolades for his performances in international and franchise cricket and is considered one of Nepal's greatest sporting icons. Currently, he breaks Rashid Khan's record by taking 100 wickets in just 42 Matches in ACC Men's Premier Cup.
Sandeep Lamichhane career?
Sandeep Lamichhane was born on August 2, 2000, in Syangja, Nepal. He was the son of Chander Narayan Lamichhane and Kopila Devi. From childhood, he likes to play cricket. He grew up playing cricket with his friends and family. At the age of 14, he moved to Chitwan and started his training at Chitwan Cricket Academy which was run by the former Captain Raju Khadka. From Chitwan Cricket Academy he was selected for the national under-19 training.
Lamichhane made his first debut on 16 April 2016 against Nambia. Sandeep Lamichhane took a hat-trick in his second match against Ireland Under-19s and became the fifth bowler to take a hat-trick in under-19 World Cup history. By taking 14 Wickets at an average of 17 07 and strike rate of 21.9, he finished the tournament as second highest wicket-taker.
IPL and T20 Leagues
He became the first Nepalese Cricketer to play Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018 from the side of Delhi Daredevil (Now Delhi Capitals). He made an immediate impact, taking five wickets in three matches, including a match-winning performance against the Mumbai Indians.
After the successful entry into the IPL, Sandeep led to more opportunities in T20 leagues around the world. In the same year, he made his debut for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL) and played for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
International Cricket
Sandeep Lamichhane has also represented Nepal in One Day International (ODI) and Test matches. He made his ODI debut in August 2018 against the Netherlands and took his first ODI wicket in his second match. In September 2018, Sandeep made his Test debut for Nepal against the United Arab Emirates.
Sandeep's success in international cricket has been limited so far, but he has shown glimpses of his potential. He has taken 43 wickets in 22 T20Is for Nepal at an average of 14.30.
ACC Men's Premier Cup
Sandeep Lamichhane played a key role in the ACC Men's Premier Cup, which lead Nepal to become champions. Sandeep Lamichhane has taken 13 wickets in the series. Now Sandeep Lamichhane will play against India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.
Awards and Recognition
Sandeep Lamichhane has won several awards and recognition for his performances on the cricket field. In 2018, he was named the Player of the Tournament in the Caribbean Premier League, where he took 12 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 8.16. He was also named the Nepal Sportsman of the Year in 2018 and 2019. On April 22, 2023, Lamichhane breaks the record of Afghanistan's Cricketer Rashid Khan's 100 wickets in 46 matches by taking 100 wickets in just 42 matches.
